RODI flow restrictor configuration/installation advice

Recommended Posts

Ok,

I am a bit embarrassed to ask, but need to get a better understand my RODI and make sure it it running at it most efficient.

I been searching online but haven't able find anything satisfying.

I bought this unit (typical basic unit 75GPD) from a reefer when I first got into the reefing.

Recently, I upgraded it to a 150GPD (BRS Up grade kit).

Everything seem to works accordingly, but there is one thing about the unit that I notice that is not in the right place.

The thing is a flush flow restrictor 450:

My unit also come with a capillary flow restrictor that installed on the waste line.

My understand is that this "thing" (the flush flow restrictor) is a combination of FLUSH VALVE and FLOW RESTRICTOR in ONE!
SO, it should be installed on the waste line and turned @ 90 degree (restrict) when in use and turn to "flow" when done to flush the membrane.
Is this correct or am I not getting it!!! If I am correct, then I even need a capillary restrictor?

Well,
Currently it is installed (this is how I got it!) on the water source line!  (which I believed is not proper!)

If anyone here have one of this "thing", please advise on it's configuration and also whether it is necessary to get 800 one!

Thanks, Chuck

Flow restrictors will be in waste line to hold back pressure on the membrane. You only need one so pick the one that is size for your GPD rating and remove the other. Your understanding of how the combo flush/restrictor works is correct, it just needs to go on the waste line.

Thanks! I'll remove one and reconfigure.

I'm sure you have it and BRS does have a video showing the install but just to clarify. The waste line between the first RO membrane and second will not have a flow restrictor. It will just be after the second RO membrane. I have dual membranes myself and it saves a good bit of water.

Thanks,

saved lot of water since upgraded!

The only that was bugging me was that flush flow restrictor that the previous owner installed in the input source instead of the waste line.  Thanks
