brcolli2 December 22, 2013 December 22, 2013 I have an 80 gallon reef (48"x24"x16"), and recently purchased two mp10s. I haven't set them up yet. I was talking to another wamas member, and he suggested that I should go with a larger powerhead. He didn't think the two mp10s would give me enough flow if I wanted to do sps corals. Do you agree with this. If so, should I get two mp40s, or would one be enough? Thanks for any help.
Fishie December 22, 2013 December 22, 2013 (edited) 2 mp40s would be a bit much for an 80 have u considered the jebao pumps....i have mp40s now and I am going to try these jebaos which are much more similar looking to the tunze at a much much lower price ur tank would be ideal for 2xWP25s and that will cost u like 130 shipped for both...i saw few on ebay that were doing it at that price. if money isn't a factor...then 1 MP40 and 1 MP10 will probably do ok too.... londonloco December 22, 2013 December 22, 2013 (edited) If your considering a Jabao pump, I would go with the WP10's. I have a 36"x24"x18" rimless set up, and have ONE WP-25 on the lowest setting currently in the tank. Any other setting I have sand blowing or water cascading over the rim. I think I need more flow in my tank, so I am purchasing two WP10's from the ERC group buy here on Wamas, thinking I'll replace the WP25 (put it on my 75g planted), and add both WP10's, to the reef. I have only had the pump running since August, but so far it is the quietest pump on my tank, starts/stops when asked. Hope this helps..... Edited December 22, 2013 by londonloco
Shoelace December 22, 2013 December 22, 2013 I recently put two WP40's on my 6' 180 and it is plenty. I'm thinking two WP25's would be very nice, as Fishie commented.

John Ford December 22, 2013 December 22, 2013 I use CaribSea Aragonite which is about 1- 1.75mm in grain size and have 2 wp 40s in my 75. One is turned all the way down and the other is on else mode and no sand blows around. Guess it matters what type of sand your going with
steveoutlaw December 22, 2013 December 22, 2013 Two WP25s would be plenty. My tank is 60x30x27 and I have a WP40 on Wave 1 running at meduim speed and a WP25 running on Wave3 at the lowest speed. I have PLENTY of flow in my tank......I've actually had to reposition some LPS because they were getting too beat up.
brcolli2 December 22, 2013 Author December 22, 2013 Thanks for all the help. I like the look of the wp40s, but I will look into the wp25s. Sounds like the mp10s won't be big enough. My substrate is the fiji pink, Grain size: 0.5-1.5mm.
steveoutlaw December 22, 2013 December 22, 2013 If you want to use the MP10s they should provide you enough flow. However, if you wanted to go the cheaper route you could look into the WP pumps.
kkozak81 December 22, 2013 December 22, 2013 I have two mp40s on a 75g and am very pleased with the flow.
