sen5241b November 29, 2013 November 29, 2013 A barnacle, right next to my torch, has expanded in size running over a torch polyp and killing it. It is killing my other torch polyp. The barnacle is like rock and I cannot scrape it off. I could crush it with a vise grip. Is there a way to get it off? I'd rather not kill it but the torch cost more!
Coral Hind November 29, 2013 November 29, 2013 There is no easy way to remove it. Sometimes depending on what it is attached to you can pop them off at the base but it doesn't always work, they normally break up. Any pictures?
sen5241b November 30, 2013 Author November 30, 2013 Tried pulling it off with tweezers but it just got crushed. My torch which had been closed up for over a week fully extended an hour later. Interesting that a barnacle could kill a coral but it makes perfect sense. The expanding shell of barnacle just starts to grow over the coral.
miggs76 December 1, 2013 December 1, 2013 Can you super glue over it? I've done this to a couple vermetid snails and it worked
sen5241b December 2, 2013 Author December 2, 2013 Glue would not have taken the pressure of the barnacle shell off the polyp. Yanking the banacle out did and then it extended.
