Derson21 October 31, 2013 Share October 31, 2013 Hi, First post and I'm hoping I can get some help IDing this type of snail? It was a hitchhiker from some established live rock. If a Conch I will leave it in but it a Whelk or something predatory I want to remove. Thanks!
Origami October 31, 2013 Share October 31, 2013 It's hard to say, but it looks like it could be a whelk of some sort. It's presence on the rock is more affirming of that than the sand-dwelling nassarius, which is another kind of whelk that we don't mind having in our tanks. It's shell is too sharply defined for me to think that it's a columbellid snail. What I'm missing in both pictures, though, is the snail's siphon (looks sort of like an elephant's snout), which I would expect to see.
Derson21 October 31, 2013 Author Share October 31, 2013 Thanks, I think I'm getting it out tonight. About to put in a CUC and want to preserve the snails I put in.
