Jason Rhoads September 10, 2013 September 10, 2013 So over the weekend I was fortunate enough to observe something I have yet to see in the years I have been keeping a reef tank. I was watching one of my Stomatella snails repeatedly lift its front half of its body off the rock, which seemed odd, when it suddenly started shooting a milky liquid from under its shell. Do these snails broadcast spawn? Pic for reference, not my picture:
Jason Rhoads September 10, 2013 Author September 10, 2013 Awesome! I am glad to know this. I guess I will soon have a ton of these to hand out
Coral Hind September 10, 2013 September 10, 2013 Yes, they broadcast spawn. Normally the females stay where they are on a high point of the rock or an area with good flow while the males seem to collect in one spot or small groups. They like to stand up on their tail/foot when they make the release.
