BeltwayBandit November 21, 2005 November 21, 2005 I need to paint the back of my 26g tank blue. What kind of paint should I use??? I would love suggestions of manufacturer and color. 45381[/snapback] I just used a flat black epoxy paint. Just remember use several (3-5) thin coats to ensure good coverage. I like the look of the black paint. I have seen others in various shades of blue that look good too. I also find it easier to use brush on type paint instead of spray paint (less worry about overspray)
mogurnda November 22, 2005 November 22, 2005 I just used regular latex paint. Be careful not to make the coats too thick, or it will sag.
discordja November 22, 2005 November 22, 2005 I went to home depot and picked up a can of Rust-o-leum marked as 'For Plastic.' This brand and type is available in both gloss black and deep blue. If you use some standard paints it will more or less turn to ash and make a mess all over the place. The 'For Plastics' are designed to adhere to materials that are semi or not porous at all so does pretty well on glass. Be careful tho, it will still scratch. One can is all you need for a 26. It covered a 29 and a 10 both and still had quite a bit left over. Can looks like
unninair November 22, 2005 November 22, 2005 There is film available in your choice of color for this purpose.... It is similar to installing your cars tint Unni
steveoutlaw November 22, 2005 Author November 22, 2005 Unni- I'm very interested in the film. Where do you get it? You're not talking about the normal backgrounds are you? Thanks, Steve
rioreef November 22, 2005 November 22, 2005 I have heard of the film option, could be a good choice. On my glass tank I used a midnight blue acrylic and applied it with one of those 1" diameter foam rollers about 4 inches long. It is designed for smooth surfaces and it turned out great, do not use a standard roller or brush. Multiple thin coats also. For the internal overflow box, I did not paint it so I could see into it from around back. Chris
rioreef November 22, 2005 November 22, 2005 BTW. Got mine from Lowes, Valspar American Tradition Ultra Latex Enamal, 8 oz can.
unninair November 22, 2005 November 22, 2005 Steve, I purchased mine at Annandale Super Petz... They come in different shades of BLUE (various depth in the ocean) or BLACK...
