swimmatte July 3, 2013 July 3, 2013 So my Dragon Soul Favia hasn't been looking to hot lately. I have been noticing these weird white "worm" type things surrounding the favia, and they seem to be spreading around the rock that the favia is mounted to. They look like the solid brown "worm holes" that I break off from time to time but these are white. They don't move at all.
swimmatte July 3, 2013 Author July 3, 2013 Looks like maybe so e kind of sponge. That's what I'm hoping. I am just a bit worried due to the current health of the favia. Everything else is doing great but maybe it's just a coincidence.
Coral Hind July 3, 2013 July 3, 2013 The favia doesn't look that bad to me. I would target feed it, that might help. Some sponges do have toxins to keep fish from eating them and corals from growing over them.

It's not that it looks bad color wise, but instead of growing like everything else, it's been receding over the past few months. The "sponge" has it completely surrounded on three sides, almost as if it's attacking it. I'll see if I can get some better pics, as this was taken with my iPhone. I will try target feeding the favia tonight as tonight is my target feeding night anyways.
mogurnda July 3, 2013 July 3, 2013 the white stuff does look like sponge, but that may not be the whole story. It's hard to tell from the photo, but the brown fuzzy stuff almost looks like hydroid polyps. That would explain the recession, but would be a bear to remove. Any chance of a sharper photo, using flash or faster shutter speed?
