External skimmer to use as internal?

Hello All,

 

Maybe this question will is too stupid to ask but thats what newbies like me do .

 

I have an external skimmer which I intend to use on my 120. My question is, Is it ok to put it in the sump partially immersed in water or is that a big no no?

 

If it is ok to do this, are there any pros cons otherwise issues that I should look out for or take care of pre-emptively?

 

The skimmer is a Octopus 3000 ex.

Most of the recirc pumps are also submersible.  Is it a bubble blaster pump?  If so, you can put it in the sump.

You can put it in the sump. Depending on the water level in the sump you may have to set the skimmer up on something to raise it.

It's prob a good thing to do so in case of an overflow if it goes crazy.

That's a good point! I wouldn't do an external skimmer unless I had the AVAST locker with the auto shut off float on it.

I have a cheap sea clone 100 from instant ocean that is submersed. Works fine, just make sure that the collection cup and air valve are above the water line obviously.

Thank you guys fr the insight. Probably will put the skimmer in the sump. Good thing is I have the option of configuring the sump the way I want it, so big advantage.
