rioreef October 24, 2005 Author October 24, 2005 I have had the brittle star for many years now. I did loose some peppermint shrimps to it, but the skunk cleaner that is in there now it not bothered by it. Suprisingly, my wife likes the 'monster' as we call it. I haven't decided yet what to do about it though. I do plan on getting a few anthias, that is cool as to how the whole tank will react to there actions. cr
Caribbean Jake October 24, 2005 October 24, 2005 The Blue Yellow Tail Damsel is the only and most docile of all Damsels, they are hardy, and very very colorful "brilliant ". Oh Jake, how wrong you are.
HowardofNOVA October 24, 2005 October 24, 2005 Chris, The Heniochus diphreutes is a great fish, I've found them at the best pricing at VividAquariums. http://species.fishindex.com/species_4682h...diphreutes.html The Heniochus acuminatus is similiar in appearance, BUT will nip the heck out of your corals!! Be aware and know the differences, this is carried by alot more suppliers, but NOT the one you want! Great fish, loves to keep moving in front of the tank, never had one that messed with corals and I have had 3 of them! On the Genicanthus melanospilus (swallowtail), Great looking fish, but be careful of it's tankmates. Nick "Stonecold" had one that was tormented by other tangs in his tank! Kind of a wussie! Howard
rioreef October 27, 2005 Author October 27, 2005 A few of you have said to stay away from the green brittle star. First, what is the difference between a serpent start and a brittle star, if any? Next, if I were to get rid of the green brittle star, what would a good reef safe star be? My wife said she wants something similiar if I remove it. CR
HowardofNOVA October 27, 2005 October 27, 2005 The Green has been a known predator, not just a scavenger. http://www.vividaquariums.com/10Expand.asp...Code=02-2611-10 The BLACK Brittle Starfish is good. Have one for a couple of years that once lost it's entire legs before and grown back. http://www.saltwaterfish.com/site_11_03/pr...oot_parent_id=4 The Serpent Starfish come in several color schemes and patterns. I like the ones with tiger stripes and are great scavengers http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Di...cfm?pCatId=1741 http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Di...cfm?pCatId=1742
