As mentioned above, Mike Henley will reprise last year's talk about common coral pests and effective treatments. Last year, Mike introduced us to using a product by Bayer that he's had good luck with. (See the pinned thread in the Propagation forum for details.) Dipping is highly recommended and if you don't have a dip already at home, we're working to make sure that you're prepared when you leave FragFest.

This year, we've ordered 150 small plastic bottles that can hold an ounce and a half each - enough to make 3 gallons of dip at 1 tablespoon per gallon. I'll buy the Bayer in bulk and will repackage it in these small bottles. We'll then be selling bottles of the stuff for about a buck each so you're able to dip your frags before putting them in your system at home.

Here's about half of the Bayer repackaged as a coral dip for Frag Fest. Each bottle will make 3 gallons of dip and will be on sale to the membership for $1 a bottle. Be safe and dip the corals that you get from frag fest to guard against pests!

Here's a picture of the 150 gallon reef-ready tank/stand/canopy combo that we're raffling off. You may recognize it as the one that we raffled off at Reef eScape the other week. The owner donated it back and decided to go even bigger! I guess that once you're bitten by the big-tank bug, you're bit hard.

Pick up will be in the Fairfax area and will be the responsibility of the winner to arrange as soon as practicable.

One day left to go!

Remember, we will have 45 ml (1.5 ounce) bottles of Bayer - enough to make 3 gallons of coral dip - on sale for $1 per bottle. You'll hear more about the importance of and how to dip your corals from Mike Henley of the National Zoo at the meeting.

Bring your membership cards, please. It'll speed check in. This year we're doing something a little different. You will get a card (specially made for fragfest) when you check in. You'll need to show that fragfest card to get frags.

We'll be taking new members on, too. You'll have to fill out a form, so your check-in will be delayed. We'll have a different line for people joining at the door so it doesn't slow down those that are already members or joined before the mailing deadline.

There are a few people that have renewed or joined in the last couple of days. I'll bring your cards with me to the meeting. At this moment, that applies to keeperofthefish, jordan'sfishtank13, jsndvl1, ChrisTran, & Squishy_Suicide_Prevention.

More pictures of donated corals for tomorrow's meeting. These are from Blue Ribbon Koi and Marine (BRK). Stop by John's shop and show him your appreciation for the support that he's given us over the years.
