swimmatte March 26, 2013 March 26, 2013 A few weeks ago I purchased a pair of ocellaris clowns from Congressional that evidently came from a client of theirs that sold them about 20 very young siblings. These guys are still pretty darn small. Today when I got home from work I found them hanging out "wrestling". They weren't really nipping, but more headbutting and ramming. It's been hours now and they're still going at it. In case it matters, they haven't hosted anything yet, even though the one that's "losing" the fight looks interested in a frogspawn colony that they're next to. Is this normal? Are they determining the female? Already mating? Actually fighting? Thanks.

howaboutme March 27, 2013 March 27, 2013 My 2 clowns are 1.5 weeks in my tank and they have been doing this as well. I did deliberately buy 1 that was slightly bigger just to avoid this but it's fun to watch. They do seem to only stay in one area unless no one's looking.

For the first month of so they weren't doing any of this. Week One they were inseparable, Week Two and Three they kind of avoided each other, now they've been sparing for 12 consecutive hours
newtoreef March 27, 2013 March 27, 2013 it happened to me as well. They became a couple eventually. One grew a lot and I guess is the female one and the other one is visible smaller. How is the xenia doing? My RBTA split ! Pretty cool.

swimmatte March 30, 2013 Author March 30, 2013 Soooooo......It's been 4 days now and they've pretty much been going at it 24 hours a day. The past two nights they've actually skipped dinner to continue fighting. I noticed today that they both have discolored mouths, almost as if they've rubbed their mouths raw. Is this ok?
howaboutme March 30, 2013 March 30, 2013 Are they the same size? Sent from my SCH-I405 using Tapatalk 2
swimmatte March 30, 2013 Author March 30, 2013 Exact same size, I can't even tell them apart. Came from same parents as well, same batch of fry.
howaboutme March 30, 2013 March 30, 2013 Here's my suggestion and it's based purely on my own research and what I would do if I were in your situation. I would ask if you can return/exchange one of the clowns and then get one that's either smaller or larger. This way, a large part of the figuring out who's boss is solved. Or you can wait it out assuming they won't hurt each other more.
fscbishop April 20, 2013 April 20, 2013 i got one small clown that is beating up the big one? weird..... any one ever heard of this?
