sparker March 20, 2013 March 20, 2013 If I got a particularly small blue tang how long could it live in a 125 gallon tank before it would need a larger tank. It will probably be around 2 years before I could upgrade. I just really have no idea how fast they grow, I've only kept a saltwater tank for about 5 months and only had fish for about 2 months. Thanks
Coral Hind March 20, 2013 March 20, 2013 There are a few fish that are sometimes called "blue tangs". Do you have; Paracanthurus hepatus, Acanthurus leucosternon, or Acanthurus coeruleus? For a tank that size, if a 6 footer, I would think any of the "blue tangs" would be fine in it even as adults.
sparker March 20, 2013 Author March 20, 2013 P. Hepatus is the species I want to keep. Thats awsome if the 6 footer would be good for it. I have been looking around on live aquaria to decide on a stock list and they suggest 180+.
Coral Hind March 20, 2013 March 20, 2013 P. hepatus will grow pretty fast until they hit the 3" size, then it is a slow grower. If you over feed it would still take it over 5 years to reach a size close to it's max. Honestly, the odds are it will not reach that max size of about 10" before it is killed by a tank crash or something else.
