jimlin February 10, 2013 February 10, 2013 just curious if anyone breed these to feed their reef tank.
Jan February 10, 2013 February 10, 2013 Opea ula! They're like pet seamonkeys were when I was growing up. They are from brackish water. Sounds like a cleaner more than a feeder. I didn't see anything about them being used as food.
jimlin February 10, 2013 Author February 10, 2013 sweet. guess i will be getting some of these then. 10 for a dollar seems way too cheap for non feeder shrimps which is why i asked.
Jan February 10, 2013 February 10, 2013 What site are you seeing them for this price? Acclimate them very slowly and for a long time. They are brackish water. SG is 1.002 - 1.010 sweet. guess i will be getting some of these then. 10 for a dollar seems way too cheap for non feeder shrimps which is why i asked.
jimlin February 10, 2013 Author February 10, 2013 hawaii local forums. smaller sized ones. large ones were 5 for a dollar. the guy got them from the waters in hawaii and said they were saltwater. i will ping him to see if he knows the salt level.
L8 2 RISE February 10, 2013 February 10, 2013 They can live in anything from fresh to salt water but do best in brackish. They're the same shrimp as in eco-spheres. I looked into them as an option to feed young cuttlefish, but found that they breed much too slowly and cost too much to be worth it. The best price I found was $1 a piece plus shipping- $150 for 100 shrimp which would last 10 young cuttlefish less than 5 days just wasn't worth it. As Jan said, they're more of a cleaner shrimp than a feeder and I'm not sure how much your typical fish would like them/go after them as food. That being said, I am very interested in going in on an order with you just as a little bit of an experiment. Message me!
L8 2 RISE February 10, 2013 February 10, 2013 Probably a fun little critter for a pico. I think they'd be awesome! I've been doing some scheming to get cuttlefish again sometime soon (more to come ) and I think if we do get these, I'll set up a 20 gallon to see how many I can end up with if they breed.
