Pacific East Aquaculture January 28, 2013 Author Share January 28, 2013 There is no parent colony, we frag from frags now and have for several years, so we do not have parent colonies of most of the corals we farm. As an example, we have hundreds of Bird's Nest frags growing in our greenhouse, each is a potential mother colony and some we sell as smaller frags some grow out a bit and we sell as larger frags or frag them and create more smaller frags. The same holds true with the hundreds of chalices, Montipora, Pocillipora, etc., etc. that we farm. We find we get faster growth farming this way and don't have just one colony that something could happen to and then we have none. So anyway, the other frags of this Montipora have a similar pattern, but this one frag is exceptional.
