Vetdog November 9, 2012 November 9, 2012 Looking to switch from 3 400W metal halides to Radions. Debating against 3 or 6....1 in each section (the braces) or 2. Tank is SPS and LPS with SPS narrowly being dominant.
Ryan S November 9, 2012 November 9, 2012 You would need 6 at a minimum, w/ TIR lenses. I'd wait for the pro's coming out in January as well. (6*$950=$5700).
Grav November 9, 2012 November 9, 2012 (edited) We have them on several tanks. We put 4 on a 4ft 150g (48x24x29) display tank in the showroom... then added the TIR lenses: Absolute overkill. Put them over about 35% and corals start to react negativly. When the Pro model is available we will just use 2 of those and put the Gen 1s on another tank. I have 2 on my 150 at home also with TIRs... turned them down to 60% to aclimate from the light increase over the old 250 MHs and LED tubes for a month then up to 80%. We put 8 on a customer's 750 gallon 8ft x42" x 44" deep tank and that is PLEANTY. We are planning a 300dd for a new customer and will put 6 Gen2 lights on it. The only other thing I can think to suggest is to go with 4 with 2 in the center and one on each side shifted a bit closer to the center. You don't need to light the overflow and side glass. Put the light demanding stuff in the middle. You can spend that $ someplace else now, and add more lights later if you decide it isn't enough. Good luck with it.
