Jstahli October 23, 2012 October 23, 2012 I need to replace my supplemental lighting for my 250w 20k radiums. I've only used VHO 454 T12 bulbs and don't have any issues with them, but before I replaced the bulbs I figured I would check and see if anyone has any better recommendations. I am not opposed to changing out the whole fixture. It's for a standard 180 gallon mixed reef.. Thanks for any advice you can give.
hypertech October 24, 2012 October 24, 2012 I've decided to supplement my 250s with a strip of royal blue LEDs. I've got all built and just need to hang it. I tested it at low intensity (have to wait till its word to controller and programmed to turn them up) and I like it.
Steve175 October 25, 2012 October 25, 2012 I agree with Steve: if your MH and VHOs are working and with reasonable reflectors and reasonable coral growth/coloration, I would not change a thing
Coral Hind October 25, 2012 October 25, 2012 Have you calulated the cost of replacement bulbs compared to installing LED strips?
Jstahli October 26, 2012 Author October 26, 2012 Have you calulated the cost of replacement bulbs compared to installing LED strips? I started to look into the led strips, any recommendations? I do like the look and growth of the VHO, just looking to experiment a little.
zygote2k October 26, 2012 October 26, 2012 Stay with the VHO'S and MHs...cant go wrong with them!!! except for the size, the dust, the heat, the power bill, the endless bulb replacement, big bulky ballasts with long cables.... when are you going to give up the horse and buggy?
firecrackerbob October 26, 2012 October 26, 2012 HA!.. here we go again!... I say stay with MH and VHO too... dont get on the band wagon. unless you like the band wagons look of course...
