Guest andrejka December 15, 2003 December 15, 2003 Nathan, I was unable to post a reply in "Club News" section where the topic New Board is. Here are my "wishes" to improve our Discussion Board: 1) Allow posting pictures in ANY forum (not just in Gallery). This feature is especially needed for Sale/Trade and General Discussion sections. If additional space on server is required,... pay for it! I hope the club can afford this. The Board is very important part of the club (the only way to communicate with other members for 361 days during a year ). 2) For e-mail notifications of replies to tracked topic, use feature “no further notification will be sent until you visit the board” (as at ReefCentral) instead of sending an e-mail EACH time a reply is posted. 3) In the notification I’d prefer to have link to the topic first, THEN link to the Board home page (if at all). 4) Would be nice if we could increase the allowed size for an avatar. It’s 80x80 pix now. How about 150x150? I like to check people’s avatars out (I think it says a lot about a person). Thank you for all the efforts!
Guest andrejka December 15, 2003 December 15, 2003 One more thing: We need to add "Location" field into member's profile displayed under avatar (see Wheres everybody at? thread).
Sph2sail December 15, 2003 December 15, 2003 Andre, thanks for the input. Our current service provider hits us on both bandwidth and storage. Others charge based on storage only w/services added. Nathan brought this to my attention recently. We may be investigating swapping to both save money and to enable better service. Until then, please be patient. Lots of work on club issues happening in officer meetings these days. We hope to bring this up at the next meeting. As for the lighter weight stuff, let's see what Nathan & Tom tell us for feasibility. Regards, steve
pez December 16, 2003 December 16, 2003 Andrey, The limitations of the BB you speak of are a function of the software we are using and is completely outside our control. I looked into switching to a new BB, like the ones that reefs.org and reefcentral use, but we would loose our existing content. If that's OK with everyone, we can make the switch. It is standard practice with ISPs to limit both bandwidth and storage space. However, we are not near our limit on either. Allowing picture uploads to every forum could push us over the limit for storage, especially if people abuse the right. We could very easily add it to the F/S forum though. -Tom
michaelg December 16, 2003 December 16, 2003 There is no way I want to see the content of this board lost....way too much good information.
Guest andrejka December 16, 2003 December 16, 2003 Thank you for the responses, guys. We don't want to loose the contents again, I agree...
Gatortailale December 22, 2003 December 22, 2003 Update on web stuff: We are working on updating the BB software with a new version (which has most if not all of the features Andrey asked for) and hope have it up and functional by the January 17, 2003 meeting. We also are working on some site updates that we plan to release at the January 17 meeting. Update on webmaster(s) roles and who is doing what: 1. Webmaster - technical maven that operates the site. - Tom [Pez] 2. Web content/design - structural design of information presented by the site. - Nathan [Aquariareview] Thanks in advance to these guys for volunteering their time to the club.
