flooddc July 18, 2012 July 18, 2012 I am in Myrtle Beach right now . I see lots of red/pink seaweed washed ashore. I wondering if those can be used as food for fish or maintain in refugium?
Coral Hind July 18, 2012 July 18, 2012 They might eat it but my fear would be what might be on the algae. We work hard to keep our tanks pest free and dropping something in from the beach could add parasites, protozoan or something else we don't want. Topic moved to the general discussion area.
smallreef July 18, 2012 July 18, 2012 I wouldnt take anything that is washed up on the shore... I personally would only take anything from the ocean if I were off of the intercontinental shelf in open ocean... the likelihood of petroleum based products being on/in fauna and water increases the closer you get to the shore...

I din't think about that. I suppose I can gather some to make my seaweed salad instead.
Steve175 July 18, 2012 July 18, 2012 Also, I doubt that it would happen to be a fast enough grower to benefit a refugium. I would let it sit on the beach and stink instead of in your suitcase. $0.02
