Tracy G July 6, 2012 July 6, 2012 I have a 40 gallon Breeder tank I am setting up and I wanted to look into LED lights. Right now on my 72 gallon (taking it down) has a 48" 6 bulb t5 high output light and was going to put on the 40 gallon till I can get a new one. I want to try to stay in the $400 range if at all possible and will be mounting the new light directly on the tank. Anyone have a recommendation on a light? Plan on keeping mostly softies but I have a few pieces of SPS and would like the light to be able to support that. Might go with the radeon but $750 is pretty expensive. Anyone have any other ideas?
icecool2 July 6, 2012 July 6, 2012 You could DIY a fixture for fairly inexpensive that would do what you want.
ArtFully Acrylic (Adam B) July 6, 2012 July 6, 2012 Sadly I would not even know where to start lol http://shop.stevesleds.com/SPS-Grade-LED-Retrofit-Kit-Package-44-54-tanks-SPS-Retrofit-Kit-44-54.htm Try looking here if you haven't heard of them yet. I have heard many good things and researched their system pretty heavily. Certainly not Radion's, but they do use a very good LED for the systems. The linked kit is $389 so pretty close to where you wanted to stay. Note that its a retrofit kit and does require assembly but they give you everything you need basically except a screwdriver, solder gun, and patience. Even better, if you don't want to deal with the build for $120 more they will build it for you.

To the original poster, I would be sure to look at someone else's tank and LED light before deciding if it's right for you. Color and shimmer may be quite different from what you are used to right now with t-5's.
zygote2k July 6, 2012 July 6, 2012 you can buy a brand new SWC Extreme LED for $400. 60w, 20) 3w Crees, half white, half blue in a heavy duty fan cooled chassis. Professional cable connections and a remote driver box with manual dimming on each channel. I maintain a 265 with 3 of these and I also have one as well. With both channels on full power, it reminds me of a Radium 20k.
