schenktank February 5, 2012 Author February 5, 2012 thats awesome man. i will definitely come grab that. there needs to be more good people in the world like yourself. ill definitely pass it on. good vibes man.
schenktank February 5, 2012 Author February 5, 2012 also. if anyone else happens to find the spawn of satan in there tank be careful. they literally burrow into your skin. i used to catch bait in murrells inlet SC for a bait shop called Perry's. not sure if this is the same species or not but after complaining about the big holes in my legs that wouldnt go away, my boss explained to me what was going on. he said it was sea lice and showed my a few holes of his own. they were crawlin around in the pluff mud we would work in i guess. didnt really put that together til just now. but thats my horror story of the day
davelin315 February 5, 2012 February 5, 2012 Hmmm... I wonder if you could get rid of them by using actual mantis shrimp? If you got a few of the G. wennerae, smaller ones that typically come in rock, they could get into the same crevices as the isopods and possibly kill them off (or, they could get eaten themselves...).
SunWyrm February 5, 2012 February 5, 2012 I read that they can go through predators like a mantis (I thought about that too). Seems like the only things that eat them, can also become food.
davelin315 February 6, 2012 February 6, 2012 The articles I found seemed to say that they avoided eating live shrimp and tended to leave them alone. That said, they did say they ate the molts in the one article. Shimek suggested a mantis (or was it Fenner?) as a possible predator but had no anecdotal information. If you can get me one of them I'll try it with my little mantis.
hbh February 6, 2012 February 6, 2012 I now am having shuddering fits and and shivers. Another reason to QT everything!
schenktank February 6, 2012 Author February 6, 2012 i will try and catch some tomorrow night. making some "stinky water" until then. very interested to see how this works and how many are going to show up.
davelin315 February 6, 2012 February 6, 2012 You're fairly far away so if you can catch some perhaps we can try the film canister method for sending them via USPS. Heck, if they die on the way, then you'll at least know that cold temps can kill them!
BowieReefer84 February 6, 2012 February 6, 2012 There is a guy on CMAS selling off all his LR in a tank breakdown on Feb 18th in Ellicott City. $1-$2 a lb depending how much you purchase. (he has 600lb's). Goodluck with these pests!
schenktank February 6, 2012 Author February 6, 2012 hmmmm might end up doin that i can definitely affonrd 2 dollars a pound
