I just got a used tank and along the edges on the inside there is loose silicone with some green algae...

It's about a quarter inch away from the seams...I guess they are all connected and this is just extra silicone that got loose over time and now is just a little ugly to look at.

It comes off a bit at a time and tears off...

I didn't wanna pull it though I case it impacts quality...I can used to seeing it after a while but if it's safe to remove I may remove excess from certain areas where it is more visible than others

I forgot to mention it is is rimless if that means anything

sounds like you bought a tank that may have had a leak and it was poorly siliconed to fix it. a good silicone seam should be 1/2" wide on each side of a corner.

Hmm I dont think that was the case...I did ask the owner and I "believe" him...also this is more so all along every edge..in some places it's very less in others a bit more...

I'll try and take pics later

here are couple pics...not very clear tho..

see the loser part of the tank with the greenish algae on it...that silicone with green algae on it.

i think i understand what happened...the silicone on each side of the edge over time has gotten loose ...

its present more on the edge that had starphire glass than the other edges...i guess more was need for starphire...idk..

but because it was loose algae etc got around and grew on it...i will have a deep sand bed and won't notice it...

but is it ok to continue using it...or having that silicon loose make it unsafe ?

i dont' know much about how the tanks hold together...but it looks solid

Strip off the old silicone and re-apply new silicone. Do not separate the pieces of glass, do not stick a razor edge or anything between the edges of the glass.
