Anyone have any tips or ideas on how i can catch this damsel? I have tried baiting it with food, and stuck my net in the corner it likes and waited for over an hour for it to come in range. i cant seem to catch it for the life of me.

Make a trap from a soda or water bottle. Cut the end off the bottle and invert it, cut the hole in the end big enough for the fish to fit thru, Cut a small hole in the back of the bottle to squirt food in and within 5 mins you should have it caught.

How big is the tank? You could drain most of the water out leaving only a few inches. Should be pretty easy to catch then.

Clear containers instead of nets work best, although damsels are typically more difficult to catch as they wedge into tiny holes when scared. You might also try and simply feed in the net for a few days until it's comfortable and then you can simply scoop it out.

I wait until the lights have been out for several hours, late at night, and nab them. Damsels are dazed and caught off guard easily this way. I've caught several fish this way at about 1 or 2am with no hassle. My watchman goby is the only one I've yet to catch.

I tried the lights out for a few hours trick, it didnt work so well i swear this fish was a ninja in another life. I also tried feeding in the net he will not come anywhere near the food, i dont want to not feed him for a day for fear of him nipping my coral. I will try the bottle trick tonight and last resort draining the tank down which i don't want to do.

thanks all.

FWIW,

I had to tear down a 120 to catch two of them. NOT FUN! Didnt drain it just removed 90% of the rock, and even then those guys were clever! I will NEVER buy another damsel.

Good luck with your hunt.

The bottle trick worked for me today. I had to remove a dottyback and it took less than 10min. The funny thing is it was the only fish interested in going into the bottle.

I did the "The Blind and ****** Method", what i like to call it to my old hippo tang. Just flipped on the halides and for the first few min the fish are a little disoriented. Their eyes have to adjust jut like ours. Hes a link i stumbled across awhile back that was very helpful by the one and only Mr. Randy Holmes Farley. Hope this helps.
