Guest tgallo October 16, 2003 October 16, 2003 im not sure as of tonite if we need water for the frag fest or not, from michaels last post he mentioned that we should bring some saltwater for the meeting and since i live close to the meeting i could donate as much ro water as we need, but i will need help transporting this water. i suggest that some of our members bring one or two pails with them and stop by my place before the meeting and grab some water from me, hopefully michael will chime in on this or glenn. thoughts please. ::

I will also have a dolly if anyone does not want to lug buckets across the woods, down the river, etc. *Just need the dolly returned (I never leave them outside, they get grabbed quick!), for my ankle has been a bit gimpy these past weeks*

Sph2sail October 16, 2003 October 16, 2003 I plan on doing a water change so I will be bringing water straight from my tank to transport rock/corals in. I intend to bring (2) 5G buckets full, inclusive of rock/corals/water. My theory on that is that it is conditioned water and the corals/rock are living in it now, so it ought to reduce shock factors. Please bring heaters and power heads. I'll be bringing one 150W heater and a powerhead for circulation. Could use a second one just for my 2 buckets worth of stuff... s
AquariaUSA October 16, 2003 October 16, 2003 Not really sure who is bringing what...but freshly made RO/DI saltwater can tick off corals to be fragged (depending on variances in salinity), although water taken from systems can also do the same depending on salinity, NO3, etc. Basic finger leathers/sinularias etc. are best fragged once they have extended (kinda hard to do when they are shrunken). SPS frags are easier, but then stress can cause RTD/RTN after the fact. If there is any doubt, just drip acclimate all corals to be fragged for about 30-45 minutes to lessen stress and mucous production. Or if you bring a coral to frag, bring 10-20 gallons with a small tank to keep separate. Having fresh saltwater (not fouled during fragging) to put frags in afterward is highly recommended. Calfo normally takes water to hold the specimens, water to frag the specimens, and then a small container of water to hold the frags. When we do new installations under 200 gallons (which have corals from day1), we bring all of the water from an existing system plus about 35-50 gallons of freshly made RO/DI salt water for dillution purposes. To date very few coral stresses have been recorded using this method.

If you are a WAMAS Member in good standing (paid your $20 annual membership fee) you get in the meeting. - Public at large can pay the $6 door fee. If you decide in down the road you like the club, you can pay the $14 dollar difference for your annual membership if you pay the difference before or at the next meeting. If you are talking corals to frag and bringing water, you are welcome to bring what you want to share. Craig
