Something else to try, ohm out the power strip with nothing plugged into it and see what conductivity you have between the hot and ground, then the ground and neutral. That would help rule if it was indeed the strip or not.

I would have thought the probe would trip the GFCI. The power strip did have all three contact. They were a little corroded however, but IIRC only the lights were plugged into it. I don't know where the ground plug was plugged in. It was a bit hard to follow.

I think he had:

2 DC 8

2 or 3 power strips

2 dedicated inputs.

yes i have 2 dc 8's , 2 powerstrips are plugged into them with 2 lights plugged into each powerstrip. The suspect power strip did have corrosion on plug.

 

the grounding plug is pluged into a quad box of outlets.

Is the quad box on the GFCI?

If the gfci is wired correctly (and it works) it will not trip on induced voltage no matter how high it is.
