Caribbean Jake April 20, 2005 April 20, 2005 Guys One of the automatic top-off we build during the build-up party is not working properly. The good thing is that both sensors are all the way down above water but it does not start the feed pump. I say the good thing cause the opposite will be that they turn OFF and then they overflow the tank and I end up with a flooded basement. Now when I shake the sensor or push down on the sensors it turns the feed pump on, it works for few days and then back to the problem. I cleaned the probes, checked the cables and I'm about to redoo the connections and splices but before I do. Does anyone else had this same problem? Jacob

Jacob 29912[/snapback] Sounds like a mechanical problem with the float switch or the reed switch inside (since shaking it solves the problem). You can isolate the problem next time it fails - when the switch should turn it on but doesn't, use a peice of wire to connect the float switch terminals on the topoff unit. If that starts the pump, then it is definitely a problem with the float switch. I would be willing to come take a look at it if you catch it in a failed state. Be worth it for another look at your tanks

craby April 20, 2005 April 20, 2005 Jake, Is there any calcium build up on the float swith shaft? This can make it stick.
Caribbean Jake April 20, 2005 Author April 20, 2005 That is the first thing I checked for and NO, there is none. Apparently is either a bad flow switch or a bad wire connection. I will test again today or tomorrow and keep everyone updated.
