GraffitiSpotCorals January 29, 2011 January 29, 2011 Okay so I have been searching on what this is and haven't found it yet so I figured I would ask you guys. Has anyone had this? Its soft and bristly I am sure its some kind of pest algae and I don't want to take the rocks out if there is a way to get rid of it. Sorry for the bad pic...
jason the filter freak January 29, 2011 January 29, 2011 Can't think of it but the hippo tang in the 75 loves it
GraffitiSpotCorals January 29, 2011 Author January 29, 2011 Really? So you have the same kind and the hippo keeps it in check?
GraffitiSpotCorals January 29, 2011 Author January 29, 2011 If anyone has had this stuff and knows of any other fish that eats it let me know. I hope it can be as simple as stealing a fish from our other tank.
GraffitiSpotCorals January 29, 2011 Author January 29, 2011 Its like little wires coming from the rock in small soft patches.
wreck January 29, 2011 January 29, 2011 Looks like red gracilaria(spelling?), nice macro algae from what I can tell from photo.
GraffitiSpotCorals January 29, 2011 Author January 29, 2011 Man I hope thats all it is, I am concerned its some kind of turf alge that is hard to get rid of and spreads fast.
FearTheTerps January 29, 2011 January 29, 2011 someone else had a problem with a similair looking algae, heres the link.... http://www.wamas.org/forums/topic/38430-plastic-sheeting-that-cuts-off-all-light/page__p__328815__fromsearch__1&?do=findComment&comment=328815 the pictures are missing from the thread, deleted from a photo share site. If you want to compare, they may still have the originals if you ask.
rocko918 January 29, 2011 January 29, 2011 Do you have any tangs in the tank? A Zebrasoma will gobble it up.
GraffitiSpotCorals January 29, 2011 Author January 29, 2011 Ahh sweet, well hopefully stealing one of Amandas tangs will do the trick, I hope we can catch one. I apreciate everyones help, I am thinking its hypnea or gelidiopsis. Any more tips would be apreciated. Has anyone has used a fuzzy chiton for this problem?
davelin315 January 29, 2011 January 29, 2011 Looks like turf algae to me. Gracillaria from what I know does not put down roots, that looks like it's growing into the rock.
Incredible Corals January 30, 2011 January 30, 2011 I was sprout up a while back and my tang went nuts for it. It's a like a treat for them.
