Will it harm a Starfish to be out of water?

For some reason, i thought Starfish will die if thier center disk (mouth)is exposed to air. I may have this wrong.

No, they are fine.

I started researching this and see mixed opinions, but nothing official. I have a Linkia that was exposed, will see what happens.

According to SeaLifeinc.Net Acclimation Guide:

Although sea stars are notoriously sensitive to PH and

salinity changes, should never be exposed to air and often require a minimum of

4 hours to acclimate, the sea serpents and basket stars are the most hardy of

the group and adjust well using normal acclimation procedures.

They are fine. I have seen them exposed for hours at low tide.

And, I don't know about acclimation, but basket stars are notoriously difficult to keep in captivity - one of those 'should be left in the ocean' animals.
