angel not fish October 30, 2010 October 30, 2010 I have a cpr sump and the skimmer is not working well, my nitrate is high and I got a asm 3. I would like to cut the sump to fit the asm 3. WHAT TOOL DO I USE IN ACRYLIC ?
ctenophore October 30, 2010 October 30, 2010 Are you trying to cut out a baffle to make room for the larger skimmer? Will the sump be dry and able to be set on a workbench or are you doing this while the system is running? A jigsaw (aka scroll saw) with a good quality, new blade is probably best if it will fit into the area to make the cut. Otherwise a dremel should work but it will make an ugly cut and may take a while. A roto-zip would work better than a dremel; it would work like a light duty router for up to 1/4" acrylic.
dakotasreef October 30, 2010 October 30, 2010 I do not know the layout of your sump, but be careful. If you cut out a baffle or a wall, it could be structural. If you cut it, the sides could bow out and cause the seals to fail.

If it's a baffle, holes work to allow flow and still allow for strength.
