srd4080 October 14, 2010 October 14, 2010 I have been running skimmerless for two years now, but I want to try using a skimmer. I have a 120 gal setup and a 30 gallon sump. I just purchased a Current Protein recirculating skimmer, but it did not come with the air pump. I am looking for some guidance on what type of air pump would be best. It came with the water pump but not the air pump. Ideas?
Origami October 14, 2010 October 14, 2010 I'm assuming that it's this model? http://www.marineandreef.com/Current_USA_Fission_Recirculating_Protein_Skimmer_p/rcu08106.htm If so, you don't need an air pump. Air is drawn into the inlet side of the recirculating pump through tubing that extends from the barb fitting there up to the air silencer. See the drawing on page 6 of the user manual for a view of this connection. (It looks like a hand drawn line from the bottom side of the recirculating pump going up toward the cup.) It looks like they recommend using a Mag-3 as a recirculating pump. The feed pump is your choice, probably something like a Maxijet 900 or 1200.
