Jan August 26, 2010 August 26, 2010 (edited) It's the navy blue one. The one above the setosa to it's right. The tips are a dark green under actinics and it has brown polyps. Edited August 26, 2010 by Jan
Jan August 26, 2010 Author August 26, 2010 I got it from a fellow reefer. I forgot her name. She broke her tank down about 4 or 5 months ago. She didn't know the name of it.
Jan August 26, 2010 Author August 26, 2010 No, it's the same color but this grows smooth shoot like branches with 1 polyp on the end. Oregon tort has multiple polyps on it's branches. oregon tort?
CHUBAKAH August 27, 2010 August 27, 2010 Very hard to tell from that pic, but sounds like the ORA blue voodoo.
Jan August 27, 2010 Author August 27, 2010 (edited) It looks like it is an ORA Blue Iris. The growth pattern is identical. Mine is a deep blue. http://www.salt-city...ead.php?t=13128 http://blog.aquanerd...ve-aquaria.html http://www.reefsmaga...ead.php?t=72385 Edited August 27, 2010 by Jan
davelin315 August 27, 2010 August 27, 2010 Looks like a tort to me, too, although that's based mostly on color. Perhaps a Miyagi tort, I had one that looked like that. The growth patterns are not indicative always of what a sps is as different conditions produce very different looking corals (e.g. the purple monster thread awhile back). The axial corralite is the one at the tip and is indicative of sps, when you say that it doesn't have any other polyps does that mean that there's a complete absence of any radial corralites? Another guess is a Suharsonoi based on the description of a lack of radial corralites and the coloration you presented, but it's very difficult to tell with the picture you have. Any chance of a better shot?
Jan August 27, 2010 Author August 27, 2010 I'm certain it's an ORA Blue iris. It's identical to this. Aurora August 28, 2010 August 28, 2010 (edited) Expect it to grow really slow. Mine has grown only 1 cm in about 6 months. Mine doesn't have brown polyp though. Edited August 28, 2010 by Aurora
Jan August 28, 2010 Author August 28, 2010 Do you have it high up in your tank close to the light? Mine is high up and it has almost doubled in size since I got it. I got it about 5 or 6 months ago. Expect it to grow really slow. Mine has grown only 1 cm in about 6 months. Mine doesn't have brown polyp though.
Aurora August 28, 2010 August 28, 2010 I have it fairly high up but off to the side. I have a lot of other SPS that are growing at a brisk rate so it's not a tank issue. I've seen a bunch of Blue Iris pics but never seen brown hairy polyps with them. I'm not convinced you have Blue Iris just by growth rate alone. A lot of people on Reefcentral also report bonsai growth rate with them. There are other ORA corals that are teal/blue with brown polyps like Joe The Coral. Unfortunately, a lot of ORA corals have very similar colors. Look up the ORA site for a complete listing and pics of all their corals. If you have brown polyp, it's not Oregon tort or Blue Iris....mine is all blue.
Jan August 28, 2010 Author August 28, 2010 (edited) This is what I have. In my system it's a very dark, almost navy blue, with a lighter bluish purple (still dark) towards the center in my tank under my 14K's. The growth pattern and polyps are identical. http://glassbox-desi...-iris-acropora/ Unfotunately not all SPS extend their polyps in all systems. The colors are also not always the same in every system. ORA does not have blue iris listed on their site. That's the first place I went to when someone mentioned ORA. Jan August 28, 2010 Author August 28, 2010 Here's another picture (second pic labeled blue iris) that looks identical in color and growth to what I have. Mine is significantly larger http://rickysreef.blogspot.com/2009/09/ora-corals.html
Aurora August 29, 2010 August 29, 2010 Here's pic of Blue Iris Here's some pic of Joe the coral In about 5 years, if yours look like this...you win...LOL
