iangibby July 29, 2010 July 29, 2010 Hello wamas my hawiian tang seems to have an issue with one eye. Its lost some color sorts foggy and is swollen. Its eating and swimming normal. There's no water issues. Should i be concerned or could he just scratched it on the rocks?
Coral Hind July 29, 2010 July 29, 2010 (edited) Welcome to the board Ian! It does sound like eye trauma to me. It can be from a scratch, or sting from a coral or anemone, I have also seen this happen from ich outbreaks. I would not remove it. Feeding it well and soaking food in a liquid vitamin like Selcon, an antibiotic like SeaChem's KanaPlex, and garlic juice for taste will help. If it is a minor eye trauma it will clear up in a week or two. Edited July 29, 2010 by Coral Hind

Coral Hind July 30, 2010 July 30, 2010 Does this fish or any other fish in the tank show any signs of ich?
iangibby July 30, 2010 Author July 30, 2010 I dont see any signs at all. The only other issue is my blonde naso has a scratch on its nose?
iangibby July 30, 2010 Author July 30, 2010 Yes they all go at but nothing serious. The yellow tang is mostly aggressive. His barb seems to be in place. We'll see how it goes im off to disney so ill update in a week.
Der ABT August 4, 2010 August 4, 2010 hope the eye is doing better sorry to get off topic, but what is that red acro(im guessing) behind the pic of the full fish. looks really nice.
iangibby August 4, 2010 Author August 4, 2010 I will post an update tomorrow. Im on my way back from disney atm only six more fun packed driving hours lol. Coral hind can elaborate on the acro more. Its more brownish now its started to rtn from the base so i fragged the whole colony.
Incredible Corals August 4, 2010 August 4, 2010 Could it "pop eye". I had a clown that got pop eye and it was sticking out of her head about 2 cm. I thought the eye was going to call out any day now and then 3 weeks later it went back to normal. I would do what Coral Hind said and just soak the food in vitamins and let him recover on his own.
iangibby August 5, 2010 Author August 5, 2010 Ok just got in an inspected everything. The eye hasn't changed but now both eyes are equally foggy and a bit swollen. No personality swings and eating fine. Also a bit of red sheet algae growing but i suspect that's do to my skimmer be full of water d'oh!! The frags are growing from the rtn episode except one, i will drag that in the morning. I test the water tomorrow as well. To be continued...
Coral Hind August 11, 2010 August 11, 2010 I'm glad the eye issue cleared up for you as it is a really nice looking fish.
davelin315 August 22, 2010 August 22, 2010 Late to the party, but the picture looked like something was on the eye. Might just be because I was wondering if that was it, but could be some sort of fluke. They can be on the bodies of fish and then you won't see them until they cross over onto the eye of the fish. One way to find out is by using a freshwater dip. There are some medications that are effective in killing off flukes (I think Prazipro is one of them). If they are flukes, you might notice other things as well such as periodic labored breathing due to them being in the gills. Not dismissing the scratch from a fight, though, as mine get that periodically from sparring, too, but it usually clears up within a day or two at most.
