Integral9 July 19, 2010 July 19, 2010 Anyone have any experience with the Koralia power heads? I currently have 2 x MJ600s and a CPR aquafuge + PS and I feel the flow is a bit lacking. Well, 1 of the MJs just bought the farm and the other is a couple years old. I'm leaning towards the nano 425s for a couple of reasons. http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem.aspx?idProduct=HD00715&child=HD00716 1) I've heard you need to go up a step due to the propellor vs. the impeller. 2) I want more flow. However, I am concerned the flow will be too high for my clown and assessor and I'll just create a standing tsunami / aquatic cyclone. (2x 425 + ~100 for the PS pump = 950 gph). Alternatively the Nano 240 isn't much better (if any) than the MJ600s and with the widened flow pattern it might even be less. Thanks
BowieReefer84 July 19, 2010 July 19, 2010 I have a 29gallon with 4 of the koralia nano 2 of them are 425 and 2 of them are 240. Overkill? Perhaps. But, my clown does fine in the current, and my polyp extension is better than ever. I am doing about 60x per hour turnover around the tank. The best part about these powerheads is the magnet mount works great, and they are SILENT. Their larger ones are 20% off http://www.marinedepot.com/marinedepot_coupons.html
Charlie July 19, 2010 July 19, 2010 I'm using a pair of Koralia power heads (different sizes) in my 55 and I'm pleased as punch.
sen5241b July 19, 2010 July 19, 2010 Got a 29G. I have a Korlaia 1 and a Rio 6hf (just under 400gph) and I have plenty of flow.
BowieReefer84 July 19, 2010 July 19, 2010 Note, your rockwork also plays a big role in how many powerheads / how much flow you need.
Integral9 July 19, 2010 Author July 19, 2010 Thanks BowieReefer. That's exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for. I went ahead and placed my order for 2 x nano 425gph which were also on sale. Also 20% off.. Charlie, what sizes do you have in your 55? I am trying to upgrade to a 135g so I am hoping the nano 425s might find a home in there.

Also, they dont put out any heat into the tank imo. All four added say 1 degree to the water. I have the 2 425gph agitating the water surface since I do not have an overflow, and it works great to keep skim off the surface. I have the 2 240gph downlow facing the front to keep the flow over the sand. Those mushroom you gave me are doing great as well. Thanks
Integral9 July 19, 2010 Author July 19, 2010 No problem. Thanks for taking them off my hands. And thanks again for the post.

Nemesis84 July 20, 2010 July 20, 2010 So how do the Koralias compare with the Vortechs in this situation? Much more affordable but larger profile? Thanks, Frank
BowieReefer84 July 20, 2010 July 20, 2010 So how do the Koralias compare with the Vortechs in this situation? Much more affordable but larger profile? Thanks, Frank Vortechs win the battle and the war. Price is the only downside. Vortech's look better, don't put heat to tank, don't have powercords in water, better flow, wave action, options like battery backup etc .. .. Having said this I have and like the Koralias.

Integral9 July 26, 2010 Author July 26, 2010 Got the 425s in on Friday and installed them right away. Good thing too as the other MJ-600 bought the farm in my tank and I'm running out of spare power heads to drop in. There's a nice strong but gentle flow in the tank now, a much needed improvement. I could see adding another 425 or two of the smaller nano's like BowieReefer has. I don't think it would be too much. Thanks for the info Charlie, I can see now that the 425s probably won't find a home in my 135.
