Stu June 30, 2010 Share June 30, 2010 I got a new ph probe from BRS, and I'm wondering about installation. When people say that ph probes have to stay wet, does that mean that I will be okay for the 2 seconds it takes to take the wrapping off and put it in my sump? Is there some special process to this? Origami June 30, 2010 Share June 30, 2010 Stu, you just should not allow pH probes to dry out. This means, when storing the probe, it should be kept immersed in a storage solution (most of the time it's a potassium chloride solution, but I've used a pH reference fluid in the past as well). It doesn't mean that you have to keep it from touching the open air. You'll be fine handling it the way you've described. Be sure to calibrate the probe before depending upon it, though. jason the filter freak June 30, 2010 Share June 30, 2010 also make sure your probe cord is above your water line if the cord isn't water proof, or you can mount it though a buoyant object like Styrofoam and have it float up and down with the water level of the sump (ie when you shut down your return pump/power loss)just make sure you anchor your floating probe dock so it doesn't turn over
