sen5241b August 17, 2010 August 17, 2010 Good news. My MDs have no problem eating sushi roe, Ocean Nutrition Marine Formula 1 small pellets, blood worms (I play with the flow to make them wiggle), bristle worms and copepods.
treesprite August 17, 2010 August 17, 2010 Wow, this is some awesome news! I'm going to have to put one on my fish wish list now. I have always wanted a mandarin, but always pass because I'm so afraid I won't be able to properly feed one. The higher price of captive bred specimens is worth it. I think the pricing of hard-to-keep animals should automatically be higher anyway, to help discourage insufficiently experienced and poorly knowledgeable people with inadequate tank setups from purchasing them.
treesprite March 23, 2011 March 23, 2011 Just felt like reviving this post because of a thread I was reading. Please consider captive-bred animals before rushing out and getting wild-caught specimens, especially the ones that will typically only eat live foods. Too many animals die because people want to save money. I would like to see success rates and comments from people who have obtained captive-bred mandarins, especially people who have also had wild-caught ones who can give comparisons.
