I am planning to move my flow with Vortec and don't know which one to choose.

my tank size is 29(D)x29(L)x20(H) and plenty of live rock..

I have 2 Koralia 4 with Tunze nanostream 6025..and it's moving good flow on my tank..

2 Vortec 10 are too weak?

2 Vortec 20 are too strong?

1 Vortec 40 is too directional? or lack?

what's your thought.. let me know~

I may think mix Vortec with Koralia or Tunze..

not planing differect vortec mix..

I would go with the MP40 if you know somewhere down the line you will be upgrading, plus you could always dial it down. I have one MP40 at one end of my 5 ft. tank with two koralia 3's at the opposite end pointing in diverging directions at the opposite end. I think it creates a nice turbulence hitting many areas of the tank.

thanks..

for the place that I have the tank..there won't be any upgrade on tank size..

40 looks overkill..i can't use it fully ..tho..

are you recommending i can use it with other powerheads?

This is for a 30" wide tank? No way you need a 40. The 10 is likely enough. I had a few dead spots on my 57 that is 3 feet wide so I added a second and its perfect. For the price of a 40, you can put 2 10's on there ant it would be much better. The pumps are smaller too.

Tony, this is what i have in my tank and works great.

2 tunze 6025 modded

1 votech mp10

they seem to work great but i have been thinking of doing either an mp10 for the other side or an mp20 since flow can be regulated. I think that two mp10's would be great for this size tanks or maybe even a mp10 and a mp20 for a bit more flow if needed.

thanks..

Yes, I think it is a good mix.

Disagree - I had an MP20 in my 24x24 cube on full blast and it wasn't enough flow. I upgraded to a MP40 and have it set at a little over 1/2 power and get flow everywhere in my tank. I think that a MP40 on full blast will be plenty of flow.

My concern is that since i have laid out the live rock in the middle, even Vortec's mode wouldn't flow all the spots in my tank.there will be dead spots here and there.

and i heard that sand will be all over with the single Vortec MP40..

here are some of my tank pics with position of live rocks in the middle mountain shape..

thats also what im leaning to but sustituting one of those mp10 for the 20 might be a good idea since you may need more flow coming from one side than the other.

i have my pile of rocks in the middle of the tank and have sort of created the toliet bowl effect untill the mp10 kick on full power then it sort of stops and goes the other way.

Put a MP40 on the side and move the Tunze nanostream down so it's blowing out the front of the cave. That should give you all the flow you need!

Sorry, I misread the tank dimensions. With the tank only being 20" high, an MP20 and the nanostream should give you plenty.
