My 8 Gallon Biocube

Recommended Posts

Finally got a camera that is up for the task, but I'm not sure how well these will turn out after being shrunk down to less than 1000k total.

The tank is still fairly young, but there have been so many lessons getting here.

Hope you like it!

Couldn't get pictures of everything, but I did the best I could.

+1 Gorgeous! What's you maintenance schedule like? Lights? What do you have in the tank? Keep up the great work and keep us posted.

It's great! What kind of lights do you have on it? Everything looks so happy!

Thanks Hilary! Pretty basic setup really. It's an 8 gallon Biocube, but I took the bio balls out and removed the hood.

For the lighting, it's a 150w 20k Radium on a 175w icecap ballast 10 hours per day, and a basic computer fan (on the same timer as the halide) for cooling.

Also added an auto top-off system (one of the DIY kits), a Hydor Koralia 1 pump (400gph), and a 9w UV sterilizer.

Somehow I got lucky and the back chamber of the tank (where the bio balls used to be) became completely taken over with green macro algae, so I just prune it back as needed.

Other than that, I use absolutely no supplements, and rely 100% on weekly water changes of about 2 gallons.

I use the Brightwell NeoMarine salt, mixed to 1.025, and my temp fluctuates between about 80.1 to 80.9 throughout the day.

I really appreciate your comments. It has been quite a journey getting here.

Take care.

Thanks Jan! Very limited maintenance. I clean the glass about once a week when I have time, and do a water change of about 2 gallons once a week.

I used to be neurotic, testing and tweaking parameters, but the best lesson I've learned in this hobby is to leave it alone.

Current inhabitants include

green star polyps

at least three different types of zoanthids (the live rock I bought was covered in them, and they have spread everywhere)

Frogspawn

Hammer

blue mushrooms

kenya tree

xenia (the stuff has spread everywhere)

montipora digitata

blue acropora of some kind

I'm sure I've overlooked something, but this is most of it.

Take care.
