dmatt56 December 11, 2009 December 11, 2009 Hello Everyone, I'm changing both my daylight and actinic power compact lights today. Is there anything special that needs to be done to acclimate the corals to the brighter lights? Thanks, Matt
Coral Hind December 11, 2009 December 11, 2009 I would drop the photo period by 1 to 2 hours depending on how old the bulbs were and increase it 15min every couple of days until you are back to where you want it to be. Just make sure you don't change your carbon out around the same time you change the bulbs out or the clearer water will cause some burning too.
Black Mammoth December 20, 2009 December 20, 2009 Hello Everyone, I'm changing both my daylight and actinic power compact lights today. Is there anything special that needs to be done to acclimate the corals to the brighter lights? Thanks, Matt Are you changing the bulbs or you going to a different type? If you are going to T5 or MH, then yeah you may need to do something. If you are changing the bulbs, I wouldn't do anything, especially with PC lights. If you are going to T5 or MH, then I ask the question....are you keeping any corals under PC lights. If you are, then you may want to put a light diffuser underneath the lights and slowly remove it over the next week or so. You can also start with less bulbs and turn them on slowly.
