Here are a few of my corals. I wanted to show the growth rate and get some input on if my corals are growing as fast as they should be. Input is very welcome, so i can make a decision on if i need to do something different.

Thanks for looking. Input welcome.

Lynn

I think you are getting fantastic growth, I can't get my Cali Tort to grow that much!

Hey Lynn, what kind of bulbs are you using? Are the 8 T5s and the MH all on the main system? Boret, I'm guessing that Lynn's growth is due to 10,000K bulbs instead of the Radium 20,000K bulbs that you are using. The coloration of the corals is much different than you'd see under your bulbs, although this could also be due to use of a flash. It's kind of a trade-off at times - growth versus coloration. In an ideal world we could get growth and coloration by using 10,000K and 20,000K bulbs in tandem, but who has that kind of money to run bulbs side-by-side?

It is hard for me to get the true color of the corals. I use a point and shoot camera with the flash. The corals in the tank have great color but i guess the flash takes some of that away. I run 14 K 250 Watt Coralvue DE MH. The T-5's i run (8) 39 watt, 4 UV H2OLOGY 454's and 4 UV H2OLOGY Super Actinics. It's hard for me to get someone to come way down here to take some nice pics and show the real color. Like the ORA/CALI Tort it is a blueish/purple and i cant capture that. If someone knows some secrets with the point and shoot please chime in.

All bulbs on the same system. When you add the the flash to the shot it takes a lot of color away from the corals.

Hey Lynn, turn the flash off and even on the point and shoot there should be some adjustment for white balance. If you can, play around with that and also the ISO. On your point and shoot you might also have the setting for manual focus, if you do, take a picture with it on automatic and then switch to manual focus. When you do this you will preserve some of the setting and then you can play around with the settings for white balance and ISO. Also, a top down shot will help your colors out tremendously. The key is to turn off the flash, though, as that is typically what drowns out the colors.

Thanks for the advise Dave. I should probably read the manual for the camera also.

Amazing! Really beautiful Lynn. Nice job.

What is your maintenance schedule like? What do you dose? How often? Lights? How long?

Thanks Jan. Weekly water change (30 Gals.). I add Tropic Marin Calcium with water change. I feed the corals 2 times a week. Lights, (3) 250 watt MH are on 10 hours a day and (8) 39 watt T-5's are on 11 hours a day. And i have lunars on during the night.
