I caught mine at about 2am. Hours after the lights were out and they were asleep. I turned the lights on and they stumbled out. They were disoriented and easy to catch. But you have to move fast. Once caught they were very upset.

Try multiple fish traps.

Use food and lure him into a net or do a quick drain/refill of the tank and snag him that way.
