So I come home from work and find my sea star stuck to the glass looking like a big orange plus sign. Apparently one of the arms came off for some unknown reason. Both the star and the severed arm appear to be fine. Both have been crawling around and you can see tentacles extended "reaching" for....well whatever sea stars reach for I guess. I put the detached arm in my fuge as not to entice any crabs. My question is, has anyone ever known of a star to do this and survive...or even better...end up with 2? Or is my star just slowly circling the drain...so to speak.

What kind of a star are we talking here?

I have a few grey and red mottled Fromia sp. Linckia multifora that dropped arms about 2 years ago, and the arms are still crawling around. They never grow new centers or more arms, but they don't die either. Undead sea stars?
