El Camaron April 6, 2009 April 6, 2009 I am currently using seachem for my water changes, i would say i have about 3 maybe 4 water changes before i completely run out so i bought some tropic marin to see how that performs, any suggestions on the best way to switch salts? 1- should i use up the seachem and then start doing 1 or 2 gallon changes with the tropic marin? 2- should i mix half and half and see how that goes? 3- should i start the 1 or 2 gallon changes with the tropic marin before i run out of the seachem? thanks for the help fello reefers
droyal1110 April 6, 2009 April 6, 2009 I personally just switched salts without thinking twice, no problems. I've heard people say slowly mix the two together and give the system time to catch up but like I said I went from Crystal Sea (guhh) to Reef Crystals in about a week from each other and I didn't mix.

I've gone from IO to Tropic Marin a few times with no problems, with no intermediate steps, at about 40% water changes. However, I suppose I do have pretty stout corals, maybe. Also, I've adjust pH, KH, MG, and Ca to very close to the same (optimal) levels. Given the nominal parameters for IO vs Tropic Marin, which are significant, I'd be sure to align these parameters with my tank water before switching brands. Can't do any harm.
