Barebottomcorals_Ed March 23, 2009 March 23, 2009 question...I have a small mushroom colony on a piece of rock. The rock is extremely covered in hair algae. Looks awful and looks to be choking out mushrooms. Is fraging the best option, or what elses should i do?
SkiCurtis March 23, 2009 March 23, 2009 So I guess you are tired of pulling out the hair alge by hand? how many mushrooms are on the rock? When you say frag them .. do you mean how to get them off the rock? to frag a mushroom you would cut it in half leaving part of the mouth. then you will end up with 2. Curtis
reefmontalvo March 23, 2009 March 23, 2009 I would suggest you introduce a Hippo Tang to the tank and hermit crabs. I never have had a hair algae problem because of the hermits and the Blue Hippo Tang always eating and trace that may grow in the tank.

SkiCurtis March 23, 2009 March 23, 2009 So you can get a screw driver or chisel and knock off the rock behind the mushroom and have a small rock with the mushroom. then you can glue onto a new rock.but it will come back unless you know why you have it? also why is there hair algae. old lights to much phosphate? I have a hippo and a good clean up crew and no algae. but i do agree with reefmontalvo I would suggest you introduce a Hippo Tang to the tank and hermit crabs. Was told to leave it alone. (bad move)..Anyways, when i first started tank i was using TAP water. Witch i was told it will take some time to remove all the junk from tap water threw water changes. Witch is causing my hair algea problem. Have 12 hermits, 2 blennies, 6 emeralds, 2 clowns and a Powder blue tang. Don't know how a hippo and my powder blue would get along.? The mushrooms are already on a small piece of rock now. My question is how do i remove Mushrooms for the small piece of rock without killing mushrooms...more or less transplanting them else were in tank..>?
