A few weeks ago we put a yellow watchman goby and tiger pistol shrimp in our 75-gal. tank. They settled right down beneath a rock and everyone seemed happy. Then, a few days ago, we noticed our engineer goby was more animated, moving lots of sand around the shrimp/watchman cave. Now, the pistol has moved (not sure where yet) and our watchman stays near the top of the tank, mostly looking upward waiting for word from the pistol.

What, if anything should I make from the engineer's behavior--would the engineer evict them? Does a tiger pistol shrimp move often, getting separated from it's watchman?

Also, an emerald crab was munching around the pistol/watchman cave. Is there anything to worry about when those paths cross in the tank?

Hello and welcome to the forums. I definitely suggest subscribing to WAMAS and pay the measly $20 yearly due fee to have access to hidden parts of the forums and to save money and become part of something big in this area. However I apologize I cannot answer your question because I do not have experience with this topic. Although I would think the emerald would tend to hide more and graze rather than be curious at possibly irritate others in the tank, mine is very peaceful.

I have an emerald crab and pistol shrimp in a 29g tank and have not had any issues. If the crab gets to close the pistol shrimp will just make a friendly noise to let him know he is close.

Not sure about the engineer goby.

I have an engineer goby. It goes where it wants, when it wants. It moves other fishes out of the way too. When it gets done building a tunnel under one rock, it goes on to the next.
