The Spring Meeting of WAMAS, The Washington D.C. Area Marine Aquarist Society, will be on Saturday April 17, 2004 from 2:00-5:00p.m. in Kensington, MD (immediately outside Washington, DC).

Special Guests and Highlights:

- Glenn Rosenbluth, VP, WAMAS presenting an interactive Reefkeeping 101 session

- Robie Sayan, WAMAS member, leading a workshop on Reef tank photography - aka ROBZ

Reef Central TOTM October 2003 - ROBZ and ROBZ's WAMAS gallery.

- Dr. Mac of Dr. Mac & Sons Corals

- Equipment garage sale, frag swap, and raffle

This meeting will focus on educating our newer reefkeepers on tips, technology and trends in reefkeeping.  We have put together a presentation called Reefkeeping 101.  This will be an interactive presentation lead by Glenn Rosenbluth that will cover all aspects of reefkeeping from the basic setup questions to stocking your tank with fish and corals.  "Interactive" means we seek the input of our advanced aquarist community during this meeting to improve this presentation and enable its use by anyone as an introduction to this fantastic hobby.

Bring your digital cameras!  Our special guest speaker is Robbie Sayan, aka ROBZ.  Robie's tank was Tank Of The Month (TOTM) on Reef Central in October 2003.  Robie's tank was also one of the tanks featured in the Washington Post Sunday Magazine article "Personal Oceans", in November, 2003.  Robie will be conducting a workshop on tank photography.  We will have a nano tank for members to practice on!  Visit ROBZ's website to see more of his world class tanks and photography.

In addition to the above mentioned presentations at the meeting, we also are encouraging members to bring in their used or unwanted equipment to sell or trade with other reefers at the meeting.  WAMAS Members can post their equipment items in this thread to find a buyer in advance.  Everyone and anyone can bring equipment to the meeting, but joining as a member makes it easier!

Along with Dr. Mac & his traveling coral store & lots of frag swapping (member frag swap thread) and a great raffle, this is sure to be a meeting NOT to miss!

Here's the Spring Meeting flyer.

Spring 2004 flyer (PDF)

We need volunteers to take these to every LFS/Pet store in the region (PetCo's, Petsmart,  Etc)

If you don't have access to a color printer, let me know and I'll get some color prints out to you.

Please post where you've placed them.

So far I've hit The Reef Tank & Tysons PetCo.

the Good News

AquariaUSA will be bringing lots of livestock to sell.  Coral list thread

Geofloors is also trying to come and sell his aquacultured frags (fingers crossed)

Still should be great meeting - with 6 pages of frag swapping, robz photo workshop, and a great raffle with VAreefman efflo frags, 4 gift certs. from The Reef Tank; some items from Premium Aquatics, & Dr. Mac gift certs.

the bad new,

Dr. Mac had to cancel.  :(

He had to attend industry meeting and didn't realize it was on same date as spring meeting when he confirmed a month ago that he would be here for the meeting.

He plans to attend the symposium in June.

See you all there!

About 90 people attended the spring meeting.  Nice turn out considering the sun was shining and the temp. outside was 85.

Thanks to all the people who helped make it a success and the companies that donated goods for the raffle.

:D
