amay121 December 18, 2008 December 18, 2008 Anyone use sea swirls? I was thinking about using 2 x 1" seaswirls for returns (driven by a dart). Was wondering if I can get away with 2 x 3/4" or if I would have to go with 2 x 1". 3/4" - 850 gph 1" - 1150gph I have 2 x 2" drains.
jason the filter freak December 18, 2008 December 18, 2008 its gonna depend on your return pump not the size of your drains
davelin315 December 19, 2008 December 19, 2008 Your dart should provide more flow than the sea swirls can handle, which will simply mean that your pump will run with less power as it's pumping less water. This is not a big deal for your pump, it's simply being dialed back. That said, I would go with the 1" so that you don't restrict flow. With the oscillating current, you should get a nice sweep of your tank. I don't have sea swirls, but I have seen them running and think that it would be a nice option for you.
jamesbuf December 19, 2008 December 19, 2008 I love my seaswirls. I've had one on my tanks for quite some time. Nice and simple. Not too many parts to break. Nice simple way to add some radomized flow in your tank. A dart is rated for 3000gph, but how high are you pumping the water?? With gph loss from height and from 90 degree angles and such, you might be good with two of the 1" versions. Used seaswirls are very common to find over on RC. I'd check there before you drop the loot on new ones. Just an idea.
dschflier December 19, 2008 December 19, 2008 On my 210 I use a 1" sea swirl and a WAV for my randon flow and both pieces of equipment are easy to fix when they break and do a very good job. If I didn't have my tunzees in the tank I think I would use 2x 1" sea swirls and a WAV or maybe 2.
