onyx November 16, 2008 Author Share November 16, 2008 I am definitely not going to use it.. I just wanted to know how deadly rust was to a SW setup. I've never had this problem before. What happened was a razor blade somehow fell into my brute trash can and rusted the powerhead, heater, and turned the water a strange color. It's possible I did a water change prior to catching this in the early stages.. meaning there may have been a small amount of rust forming already on Monday when I did my water change. Today when I opened it up, the water was colored funny which is how I knew something had gone wrong. I have thrown it all away and am getting a new Brute tomorrow, but I'm kinda worried about adding a small amount of rust to my system on Monday. I don't know either way if I did or didn't, but it has me concerned. I can't for the life of me figure out how the razor blade got in the trash can, or for how long it was there. zygote2k November 16, 2008 Share November 16, 2008 Rust = Iron Oxide. Might have an algae bloom. Might be the new trace element your reef lacks. Could be bad or good.
flowerseller November 16, 2008 Share November 16, 2008 Sounds more like your heater was cracked if it discolored the water like that. That could add copper to the water
