What about buffering the RO water for water changes?? I remember reading something about the benefits of buffering the RO water before you add in the salt.

From what i've read, most artificial salt mixes (I.O. for example) have enough ALK in them so for the most part, it should'nt be necessary to buffer the RO water for water changes. Though, it's probably best to test now and then for variances in the batches of salt.

the water that i use for changes comes out of the same bin as my top off water..my top off water is buffered so that alkalinity and ph is the same as the tank...imo u should buffer your top off..if you were just gonna add salt it wouldn't be neccessary becuz the salt mix will do the buffering but doing so probably wouldn't hurt..
