i have some green stuff that looks like algae growing in my denitrator. i have 0 nitrates in there and .03 phosphate last i checked. what do you guys think

there is hardly anything for it to eat. i know this isnt normal. am i doing something wrong?

That is bad. That means the inside of reactor has become too anaerobic and started producing hydrogen sulfide. Smells like rotten eggs. I'll let Dan tell you what to do as I'm not 100% sure. I know that stuff is not that good for your tank, so be careful.

Empty, rinse the media (you can reuse it) and start over.

 

Use a Orp probe to prevent this in the future. -175mv is the target range.
