SteveM August 18, 2008 August 18, 2008 Does anyone know if you can trim back a frogspawn? Mine is getting very large and although my clowns love to host in it I am afraid I may have to remove it if I can't find a way to trim it back. It is getting very close to some of my SPS and I know it will kill the SPS if it touches them. Also, if I have to remove it will the clowns just look for something else to host in or will it have a negative effect on them?
MisterTang August 18, 2008 August 18, 2008 The best suggestion I have is to cut some heads off and give them to me
ReeferMan August 18, 2008 August 18, 2008 the only way to trim it is to cut whole heads off of it. Clowns will be ok
Coral Hind August 18, 2008 August 18, 2008 Frag it by cutting the branch of coral skeleton as low as you can so you have enough tissue free skeleton on the frag to assist in mounting it. I am sure the clowns will not be happy if their host is removed. If there is another suitable host in the tank they may adopt it but it may take awhile. The good thing is clowns can live just fine without a host.
flowerseller August 18, 2008 August 18, 2008 Is it a ridge FP or branching? If branching, above suggestions are good. If ridge, you can cut the base to within a few inches of the tissue and it will be fine.
quazi August 18, 2008 August 18, 2008 I have never seen ridge frog spawn. I assume it is like ridge hammer. Anyway, "trimming" frog spawn is as easy as grabing a piece of branch and pulling. It will snap right off. I have done is lots of times. In fact, I need to do it again soon! My frog spawn is taking up about a 1/3 of my 55.
