tygger May 12, 2008 May 12, 2008 The actinic bulb in my lighting fixture went out and I don't remember the wattage and size I need. Here's a pic I took with my cell that didn't come out to well. The overall length is 12.5", but the bulb itself is only 11.5". On the base, it says, "Coral Star YDW24-H." Is this a 24w straight pin PC? And can you recommend a place to get this locally and online? Thanks!
magnetic1 May 12, 2008 May 12, 2008 Looks like something like this would work: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/209880/product.web
tygger May 12, 2008 Author May 12, 2008 Thanks. You're pointing me in the right direction. Now I just need to find actinics. What happens if I get the incorrect wattage?
magnetic1 May 12, 2008 May 12, 2008 Thanks. You're pointing me in the right direction. Now I just need to find actinics. What happens if I get the incorrect wattage? Here you go: http://www.hellolights.com/index.asp?PageA...amp;ProdID=1640 Doesnt list length but I think all 24W CF bulbs are the same length. If the wattage isnt right, it wont work optimally I think. It still might fire the bulb though if the wattage is off by a little. Pretty sure 24W is correct.
smarsh97 May 12, 2008 May 12, 2008 (edited) all 24 w bulbs are not the same length. I ran into that problem when trying to buy bulbs for the Nano Cube. They are 11.5 in long where the others are a tad bit longer. Make sure you get the right size to avoid the hassle of returning them. Sandy Edited May 12, 2008 by smarsh97
Boret May 13, 2008 May 13, 2008 Back in the day (10 months ago ), when I had a PC Fixture, I bought lamps from these guys Aquatic Factory I linked directly to their 24W PCs. Make sure you select the straight pin. They sell them for $7 a piece, shipping is decent and they looked perfectly fine in the Orbit Fixture I had. They shipped right away and I was satisfied with the purchase. I am even tempted to buy one of the MH 250W DE 20K for $24.99.... give it a try. I am sure that they are made in china and are no match for the US or German bulbs... but for Power Compacts I really couldn't find any thing cheaper anywhere.
tygger May 13, 2008 Author May 13, 2008 Do you guys think the JBJ bulbs ($14 ea) are worth twice the cost of the generic ones from Aquatic Factory ($7 ea)? Actually, after shipping, the JBJ's are about $5 more per bulb. Really appreciate the info. Thanks!
